Depression

Throughout our lives statistics show that many of us will at some point experience some form of depression. Depression is a disturbance in our mood, where we may feel particularly unhappy, discouraged, lonely or negative towards ourselves.
Depression may range from very mild, moderate to severe forms, depending upon the symptoms associated with each condition and the extent the condition interferes with our everyday functioning.

Some of the symptoms of depression include:
  • Hopelessness
  • Depressed 'black' mood
  • Feelings of Worthlessness
  • Lack of Motivation
  • Low Energy
  • Disturbances in Sleep or Appetite
  • Thoughts of Suicide
  • Lack of Interest or Pleasure
  • Shame or Embarassment that you can't just 'snap out of it'
  • Withdrawing from People
  • Poor Concentration
A visit to the doctor may be helpful in providing relief for some of the symptoms. Sometimes medication is helpful in lifting your mood so that you can look at what the depression may be about.
Another step to take when coping with depression is to make an appointment with a trained counsellor to evaluate the nature of the depression and the most appropriate methods and strategies to deal with it.
