What is Counselling?

Counselling / Psychotherapy is a type of talking therapy. It involves talking to a therapist about your difficulties. Counselling helps people to gain insight into areas of their life which are causing them difficulty. This is achieved by the therapist and client working together in a safe, confidential and  non-judgemental environment, which gives people the time and space to understand themselves better.
Counsellors are trained to understand deep patterns of thinking, feeling and relating. They appreciate the many ways past difficulties may cause emotional or relational distress. Essentially they help you make sense of such knots and kinks, they support you in letting go of unhelpful patterns and develop more satisfying ways of being.
Counselling can be a positive way  of addressing unresolved issues you have and can help you understand your problems better. It can also help you have a better understanding of other people's points of view.
People come to counselling for many reasons. These are just a few:
  • Depression
  • Stress
  • Anxiety
  • Trauma
  • Relationships
  • Bereavement & Loss
  • Addictions
  • Sexual Abuse
  • Confidence & Self Esteem
  • Anger
We cannot change our past but we can change how we react to it, so it no longer has the power to affect how we live in the present.
